Last Update 28th June 2009

Club TT Tuesday 30/6/2009 - confirmation of arrangements

For the avoidance of any doubt the Tme Trial next Tuesday will be held at Gilberdyke as per the original timetable. The last event did not count toward the championship due to numerous riders getting stuck behind a fleet of combine harvesters and losing a considerable amount of time. In addition the road works at Driffield are still on-going some evenings making good some defective work. It also saves having to amend the information lodged with the police and CTT. Please meet at the usual car park at Britspace opposite the end of Bellasize Lane.

Signing on will close at 6.40 prompt - please get to the HQ in plenty of time to sign on

Dean Fulstow and Richard Guymer are down to marshal (or push off) and Andy Carroll has volunteered to organise so that should cover the circuit okay

Hull University - Research Trial Opportunities

Angela Hillman is a PhD student at the Hull Uni studying the area of Exercise Physiology. She is conducting her dissertation research in the area of hydration status & oxidative stress in cycling exercise. Angela is looking to recruit 12 male subjects for her first of four research studies. Angela is looking for recreationally trained as well as competitive/racing cyclists and has contacted our club for volunteers.
Subjects will benefit from the testing by finding out their lactate threshold, which is a more reliable measurement to prescribe endurance exercise training than the VO2max (and would cost upwards of £150 to have tested in a professional lab!), as well as their antioxidant status, hydration status & their body's reaction to exercising in the heat. Angela hopes to find that hydration status does have an effect on oxidative stress and thus be able to help athletes of all kinds attenuate that oxidative stress by assessing their hydration status and making individualized hydration plans. The research is mildly time consuming & intensive (90mins per trial), but Angela believes the benefits outweigh the costs & hopes you will participate.
For more details and if you can help please contact Angela Hillman A.Hillman@2007.hull.ac.uk

National Criteruim Championship - Help Urgently Required

Once again Hull Thursday are organising and promoting the National Criteruim Championships on July 24th in Beverley town centre as part of a weekend of cycling activities which also includes the Big G sportive on 25th July and the East Yorkshire Classic 26th July.

As part of the safety requirements for the Friday night Criterium larger areas of the course need to have barriers in place. As you can imagine there is a large finical cost involved with a company carrying out all of this work. To significantly reduce the cost and for the event to go ahead volunteers are required to help put out the barriers all day Friday. With out this help and support the event can not be run due to safety reasons. If your are free or can wangle the day of work (most of us have booked a days holiday) please contact me, the more help we can get the easier the job will be.
