Ten League Event Two

Warmer evening for event two and most did better times, only six failed to improve and the median average improvement was 40 seconds.

Julian Gromett scored another impeccable win. I thought that Joel Wainman would have been a little closer tonight - well he was but only marginally. "Add another forty miles to the distance and we'll see who's best" said Joel, recognising Julian as the faster man up to now. Now there's a thought. How many riders would we get to support a 50 League?

It may seem a little unfair that riders in the lower divisions can get bonus points for promotion whilst the riders in the Premier Division have nowhere upwards to go. It works out ok in the end. The bonus points are awarded only once and once a rider is promoted he has less chance of winning the division he's moving into.

I waited three quarters of an hour with my camera for Julian (seems a good name for bike riders - we have Julian Winn and Julian Ramsbottom and now Julian - now if I had any more kids ...) only to be baulked by a car at the last minute. Such is life. More pics later in the day

In Division One, Dave Shackleton shared first place with Charles Crookes, mixing his road racing with his time trialling - I've just found out Dave came 13th in the Divi Champs last Sunday; quite a formidable ride. Despite going backwards by three seconds, John Lockwood hung on to first place in Division two, being challenged by John Brearley. Alan Gay and Vanessa Frith are both promoted from Division Three, a superb ride by Vanessa - and look how closely that Division is matched. Steven Guymer won Division Four, being promoted for the second time - but who would expect a 14 year old to do such good rides, he should get a bit more competition in Division three. Andy Barnes, one of our newcomers to the club this year (he got second place in last Thursday's Road Race League) moves up to Division four, he would have been promoted after the first event but there is a two man restriction in the promotion rules. And for the second time Les Philips won Division Six but Mike Kilgour is getting closer.

Steven Guymer is winning the points competition as you would expect, but he has a number of challengers. See Points to Date
