of 14 held on Tuesday 24th May, 2005 Sponsored by Star Bikes Chris Whitelam still holding everyone at bay in the Bartley Hilly TT Another fine win for Chris Whitelam with a near half minute margin over Paul Purdy with nearly a quarter of a minute back to third placed Dave Hudson. Our man of the moment Andy Barnes was next, still only a minute behind Chris and well inside thirty minutes for the race and beating fancied riders like Paul Noton and Dean Fulstow. Dean is keeping himself nowadays for the road races (and doing well moving up a category) whilst Paul is recovering from food poisoning. Amongst these are Derek Palmer and Steve Guymer, like chalk and cheese - Derek the strong and heavy guy (Mr Universe) and Steve the willowy three stone powerhouse (Mighty Mouse) who's not without power and proved the stronger of the two; must be the power to weight ratio on that headwind up the climb to the finish of each lap. Calum McElwee predictably was the fastest schoolboy, with Mattie Barratt telling me that he's a bit short of miles. I suppose it's a reasonable sort of excuse as all the kids are now in the midst of their exams. Nice to see Mark Walker closing up on Mattie, I can see Mark getting better as time goes along. Another good turn out and some good rides. I notice some riders are going up the placings and some going down (obviously). Andy Peers may be a force to reckon with when he gets in his stride but, like Nathan and Dean, I suspect he uses these events for training. I think my best ride medal goes to Steve Guymer this week.
