Racing Update

City Road Club Open 10 Mile TT  - Good Friday

This was on the V714 Course with a field of 97 riders.  Four Hull Thursday members entered  Dave Percival, Andy Barnes, Dean Fulstow and Alan Kaye.  Dave did not start and Alan did not finish.  Andy Barnes returned a 23 02 which gave him 5th place overall.  The winner was Wayne Randall with a 21 30, so as you can imagine Andy was pleased with his time and result.  Dean did a 24 30 but is just getting over a very heavy cold.  We can expect some faster times from Dean as the season gets into full swing.

Bridlington Spring Road Race  -  Burton Fleming  -  Easter Sunday

Steve Macklin, Andy Barnes, Karl Downs and Chris Burton entered this one.  37 miles for 3rd and 4th Category Riders.  Steve managed to get in the initial break which went with a couple of laps to go.  Although a few got over to it in dribs and drabs they managed to stay away up the long drag to the finish.  Steve managed a creditable 9th place.  Karl and Andy  finished towards the front of the chasing bunch.  Chris packed on the penultimate lap.

Pete Fryer Veterans Road Race  -  Halifax  -  23 April 2006

Three  Hull Thursday Riders in the 40 to 55 age group, 46 mile event, on the tight and hilly course near to Greetland.  Steve Macklin, Dean Fulstow and Andy Barnes.  There were 37 starters in total.  This was keen contest and a lot of breakaways were tried but nearly all failed.  Two riders managed to stay away and finished about 30 seconds ahead of the chasing bunch.  Of the Hull Thursday riders Steve Macklin faired best and finished 7th (provisional result) and 2nd in his category, a very good result in a tough race.  The finish was half way up the steepest part of the course, which is Steve's 'cup of tea'.  Andy and Dean finished in the same bunch about 10 places behind.
Dave Watson entered the 55 to 70+ category and finished off the back but enjoyed the event.
Halifax Imperial Wheelers organised this for the LVRC.  It was brilliantly organised and marshalled-many thanks to them.
