How
do you tackle the dreaded Col de Newbald? An Ullrich power
climb in the saddle or a fast revving out of the saddle
Armstrong? No doubt everyone is inspired by the battle going
on in the Pyrennee, eight riders all got in the 22 minute
slot, but only two came with times less than 21 minutes.
A big battle between Neil Cleminshaw and Dean Fulstow, Dean
is really breathing down Neil's neck now, only 4 seconds
between them. Vanessa once again was the fastest girl and
she beat a lot of the men into the bargain.
Rob
Stones and Tony Boynton had a good tussle for third spot,
Tony might have won this battle but it was a good ride from
Rob. Over the events I notice one or two riders moving up
the in the results. Derek Palmer is one, Nathan Wilson is
getting better, and so is Mike Kilgour. A lovely balmy evening,
a bit of a breeze pushing on the climb and everyone seemed
to enjoy it. Did anyone count how many times they changed
gear?
Dennis
came back with his elbow covered in grazes and oozing blood;
he'd come off on the hill. I asked him if a spectator had
brought him off with her handbag and he went on to tell
me how many people were milling around him on the hill,
they were running in front of him, some pouring water on
his head and he was completely overcome. Roy Harvey intercepted
here and said, "Yes, and then you woke up on the floor!"
I like that.
I
have some photos but I'll have to put them on later in the
week.
