Whilst
the rest of the country are bemoaning the fate of time trials
on dual carriageways, Paul Kilvington must be applauded
for providing an interesting, almost social, way of revivivng
the club events. The event on Etton this Saturday proved
to be more than interesting, it was quite exciting and in
some respects more of an adventure than a race.
Steve
Macklin, however, was a very worthy winner. Not only did
he go around the fastest - he didn't fall off. Some excuses
might be found for Paul Noton riding a private trial and
recovering from a bad traffic accident. But eager beaver
Dean Fulstow would have been more of a threat had he not
fallen off - twice - both times on the same corner.
The
Etton circuit passes around some very quiet country lanes
and Paul decided to try a different start and finish, safer
and away from parked vehicles. The road from South Dalton
toward Kiplingcotes valley had a lovely back wind and some
rare speeds would be done along here. Unfortunately there
is a very acute turn which turns up to a hill so anyone
wishing to use some of the back wind speed would find themselves
in difficulty as the corner was about an inch deep in gravel.
Nathan Chester takes the prize for falling the heaviest
sustaining a lot of superficial grazes, maybe enough to
prevent him riding hi planned 'Phil and Friends' ride on
Sunday morning. Craziest most go to Dean who went down twice.
Creative prize must go to Paul Noton who went around at
speed on the grassy bit, no doubt inspired by Lance Armstrong's
epic in the Tour de France.
Adding
to these problems was a farmer cutting his hawthorn hedge
around the start area with a huge circular saw attached
to a tractor. Tim White was the unlucky one here and he
didn't complete the first lap.
Nice
to see two newcomers to the field, Andy Tate and Sarah Davies,
who both did fair rides as novices. The Overall Points competition
is getting quite interesting, Val Brabiner looks to be uncatchable
in the ladies section but the others are still up for grabs,
especially when only the best eight count.
Managed
to take a lot of photos
you might find interesting.
