Cleminshaw Shows Everyone How to Go Fast
The
Stars came out tonight in the shape of Neil Cleminshaw and
Vanessa Frith. Neil finished a good 49 seconds faster than
Jon Dibble on the three lap Etton circuit whilst Vanessa
would have finished 11th fastest and maintained a fine average.
Neil
has obviously got over the crash he had a couple of weeks
ago and I've seen Vanessa's name in placings in the women's
road races around the country. Dave Shackleton looked to
be going well - he was certainly steaming past the finishing
area which was very fast tonigh because of the 'brisk' (an
understatement?) breeze from the north west.
It
was cold too, even though the sun shone throughout the evening.
Steve Macklin did well to get the better of Dean Fulstow
tonight, maybe that was because Steve has ridden this circuit
a few more times and is chasing the vets section again this
year. Supervet leader Mike Gomersall, no doubt worrying
whether it would rain tonight, was unfortunate to puncture
and damage his tyre, but was also fortunate to be able to
get the loan of a wheel to be able to finish. John Weaden
took advantage of this, deservedly when you look how consistently
he was lapping the circuit. Andy Peers was not so lucky
puncturing at the end of the second lap and having to retire.
Graeme Lawton lost a minute on the last lap through a silly
fault - he thought he'd finished after the end of the second
lap. You have to change sex to get away with that one Graeme.
Three
laps past the timekeeper puts quite a strain on keeping
track. Some numbers also weren't fixed very well and I have
to tell you that you should shout your number when you pass
the timekeeper - every lap. You have been warned that if
you don't shout your number to the timekeeper at the next
event then you may not get a time.
