Dave
Shackleton Takes the First Evening Circuit Event
"I
came out tonight expecting to pick up some points because
I didn't expect many here but everyone else seems to have
had the same idea." So said Mick Adams after riding
out in torrential rain to take part in the 4th event in
the time trial series, an 11 mile circuit from Molescroft
around Lockington village. The rain eased off just before
the start and it seemed that the wind which had been raging
for the last couple of days had been dampened down a little.
"Not so!" said Mark Dicconson using expletives
I wouldn't dare repeat, and this was corroborated by Tim
White.
The
difficult conditions is reflected in the differences between
the times of the field and the expected battle between Dave
Shackleton and Jon Dibble was resolved by only 9 seconds.
On his comeback trail, however, less than 20 seconds away
was Dean Fulstow. Tim and Paul and Steve and Rob are going
to have to raise their targets a little to beat him in the
coming events. Paul and Steve are often close in the events
but never closer than today - and I saw Steve tacking into
the wind. Paul Hayward must be pleased with his time and
I think Clare will be too, she's hardly done any training
this year because she's taking exams.
Spare
a thought for Andy Barnes; he joined the club just a couple
of weeks ago and this was his first event. He was unfortunate
to puncture on the starting line but his luck ran out completely
with another puncture along the course. Not surprising with
so much water about. I must apologise to Gary Sheriff -
I thought Paul Hayward and Dave Shack were last on the road
and moved away from my marshalling point. Sorry Gary; I
see you got round ok.
