It's too early to talk about form and the weather is still cold - very cold. Joel Wainmanhas a couple of wins at least prior to the event and he has a reputation to live up to - and delivered - he always seems to go well when the conditions are hard.

Dave Shackleton our up and coming roadman decided to try out the course and came a creditable 9th - I almost caught him on camera overtaking his mother; but that's a different story. Mark Burtonshaw, our new man from York came in at 21st showing he's maintained his winter fitness. Chris Burton might not have done as well as you might expect but he's had a hard weekend and was well satisfied with his performance. He'd had a long Saturday morning endurance session and then took part in the afternoon's training session - a good weekend's work.

In case you're worried as to the fate of Dave Green, well he did start. He only got a couple of miles up the road before he was sick (twice) and unfortunately had to retire. If Dave was going for the lanterne rough record he'd have had a job - Mike Smith had his eyes on that.

The race record time was broken as well as the lanterne rouge, and also the best schoolboy time by my namesake - no relation -unfortunately.
