Jon Dibble is first back
Another fine day but very windy for the first week on the Brantingham short circuit. Decided to split the scratch group into two, twelve is too big to create a working team so we had two sixes split by a minute, the more competent riders did 11 laps and took 63 min 20 secs to complete the session.
lst group on road - Neil Cleminshaw, Dave Shackleton, Jon Dibble, Steve Macklin, Chris Burton and Mark Dicconson (11 laps)
2nd group on the road: Paul Purdy, Chris Daddy, Kevin Eckersall, Dan Keena, Steve Ward and Mike Moss (joined be Paul Noton) (11 laps)
3rd group on the road: Peter Smith, Mick Adams, John Galbraith and Paul Hayward , joined later by Alan Whittaker and Rob Stones (10 laps)
4th Group on the road: Paul Kilvington, Graeme Lawton, Tristan Batch, Ryan Maclachlan, Mark Best, Derek Palmer, and Richard Guymer, Richard Bielby joined in later.
The handicaps worked out exceptionally well but more by accident than design. Neil's group started fast instead of their supposed chat-lap, consequently Paul's group lost another half minute. Both these groups lapped at a pretty constant rate on quite a hard day, until 3 laps to go when Neil's group caught the slower ones and he, Jon and Dave pushed up the pace a bit and opened up a gap which they managed to maintain until the finish. But there were seconds in it and I think everyone had had a good work out - maybe a bit early in the year but you never know what weather's around the corner so you have to make the best of it. Naturally the faster groups have closer levels of ability and the other groups who were abit more mixed and maybe some had a bit more of the lion's share of the work did quie well to keep together. Same time same place next week.
