Event Two Little Weighton Course - 32 Miles - club Hull Thursday
Marcus
Smith got his revenge on his defeat in the first event by Paul Noton, who managed
to stay ahead - just -of Marcus' finish. He made certain this time with a couple
of lengths to spare from Dave Shackleton. Paul naturally loses his 
lead
in the series to Marcus.
The first group, novice fourth cats, set off at 7.00 comprised of Mark Best, Andrew Barnes, Gary Lamping, Carl Looker, Andy Peers, Derek Palmer, Mark McKeown, Mike Pickering, Gary Sheriff, Andrew Penny, Simon Nicholls and Nathan Wilson
This
group contained Andy Peers who took both the prime prizes on laps two and three,
and finished with the main group. Guess he's not a novice any more. They managed
to hold off adversaries for more than two laps with their three minute allowance.
Next
on the road were the experienced 4th cats: Zak
Thackray, Rob Stones, Chris Burton, Simon Nicholls, Vanessa Frith, Dave Compston,
John Lockwood, Alastair Watson, Terry Parker, John Hopper, Matthew Warcup, John
Galbraith, and Paul Maskell
Experience super vet Rob Stones kept them working together, a group which contains Vanessa Frith, the only lady who stayed pretty well with this bunch all through. I bet ladies make good domestiques!
Two
minutes later the 3rd cats set off with John Galway and Steve Macklin showing
good form. These were: Sean Rosser, John Galway, Colin Sinclair, Steve Macklin,
Tony Boynton, Nathan Chester, Tristan Batch, Mike Gill, Andy Tannahill, Daniel
Wright, and Barry Dixon.
Just
two minutes to the next group comprising Jon Dibble, Neil Cleminshaw, Dave Shackleton,
Richard Moore, Marcus Smith, and Paul Noton. A small group perhaps but a powerful
one which included two promotions and Richard Moore - who was only ready to
join in the first event when the scratch group went off.
A
depleted scratch group set off one and a half minutes later, missing Chris Daddy,
Mike Moss and Paul Purdy, but adding Alastair Kay, Paul Watson and Jason Benham.
Namely these were Charlie
Evans, Alastair Kay, Dan Keena, Paul Watson, James Frith, Steve Ward, Jason
Benham, Stewart Pickard.
Unlike the first week, the
second cat riders meant business, a business they decided would be better not
waiting for scratch riders. So they set about bringing back the front groups,
getting to the head of affairs and making sure they stayed there. There seemed
to be no answer to Marcus Smith at the finish and the back 
markers
came in more than a minute down. Steve Ward, at least, seemed to find it amusing.
