Sad
that Dave Lloyd was unable to come, a long time heart problem
started to play up and some new medication made the situation
worse and Dave was unable to leave his home. Plan B was
too late to work out so club members stepped in admirably
to provide a very enjoyable evening.

Rob
took over the compere's job this year and told his western
story of the brown paper rustlers. Jim's address was very
short, "The Queen" was all he said. John Barratt
spoke well and praised all the winners, and thanked the
helpers too, in a very professional manner. You should know
that he'd taken his mum's dinner ticket to come and do this.
Neil, still among the prizewinners this year, thanked John
and all the helpers too.
We
had a table full of BC officials both local and national
and Bob Howden graciously presented the prizes. There were,
unfortunately, a few winners not able to make the dinner,
but there were still plenty of trophies ready to be collected.

Chris Burton, Senior
Road Race Champion Cup
Neil and Chris with
the Two up trophy.
Calum
was the first to come forward and, as all subsequent prizewinners,
he received a rousing cheer. Dave Shackleton won the Hill
climb trophy, a magnificent cup, an do you know that he's
the only club member to beat Chris Whitelam in a race this
year?
Chris
actually had fifteen trophies to collect, and could have
done with a tin of metal polish to look after them. He did
share the two-up trophy with Neil, another one of the heavyweight
trophies, and Rob caused a laugh when he overheard someone
say, "You can come to the front now, Neil", when
they both came up to collect.
I
thought that Paul Kilvington would have won the senior MTB
trophy but maybe his last minute win was outside the time
limit. He got plenty of praise for the time trial series
though, and I suppose that's waht matters.
But
there were other prizes to be given, those awards judged
by the committee. First was Nathan Chester and his organisation
of his first ever road race, the Keith Carter, his praise
sung also by Bob Howden presenting the Organiser of the
Year Award to Nathan. Bob commissaired this event so he
knows it was well deserved.
Neil
Cleminshaw may have given up the club secretary's job but
he's doing a very efficient job with the treasurer's hat
on. But it's more than this, he and Cindy, who organised
the dinner, are among the vital organs that makes this club
function. So he gets the Official of the Year trophy.
Young
Calum McElwee may have been surprised to find he'd won the
clubman of the year but no-one thought him less deserving.
He's a full-of-enthusiasm youngster, bright as a button,
improved beyond anyon'es expectations and goes out on a
Sunday and hammers away there as well. He's had a brilliant
first year.
