Chris
Whitelam again
I'm
certain that Paul Kilvington must have a magic wand. How
can you attract 28 club riders to race a time trial that
goes up Newbald hill? I could see from the riders as they
finished that it wasn't easy - I saw Tim White hanging over
his bike after the finish line looking in need of artificial
resuscitation. I wanted to take a picture of him like this
to tell the story but he fortunately recovered before I
could do it.
Of course Chris
Whitelam's time is outstanding - all his times are, but
if I had to vote on a really outstanding ride then I would
propose Derek Palmer. Derek is not built like a Spanish
climber, he's just an incredibly strong guy who powers his
way around these events. He told me he likes hills - I think
he just likes a challenge.
You might wonder
why Dean Fulstow only finished half way down the field.
Dean had an unfortunate spill three day before in a road
race and lost quite a bit of skin from his arms and legs.
Must have been a very sore ride for him.
You may not
have noticed but Nathan Chester gave Chris Garden quite
a beating in the last of the series on the Little Weighton
course and they seem to be having personal battles. Friendly,
of course. Well Chris got his own back tonight.
Nice also to
see Calum finish in the top half of the field - it could
be that this sort of course is right up Calum's street;
he can't weigh much more than a canary. Still a good ride.
