Ten League Event Four
Just when we think that Joel Wainman is invincible in this series along comes a determined Julian Gromett to take the fourth event by a full nine seconds. When Julian came in off No 5 with his 21.34 we thought it was going to be a pretty fast night but then when Joel came in a few seconds slower 5 minutes later it produced quite a few "Oohs" and "Aahs" (well at least from the timekeeper and me). It was a pleasant evening to be helping but the slight westerly wind became calm during the event and it would seem like a head wind all the way round.
As far as personals go there weren't too many. The most notable were in division three where clubmates Calum McElwee and Dave Percival are having a real ding-dong, young Calum coming out on top this week and doing his best by improving more than a minute. Both are promoted to the next division for their pains and they can continue the battle in the final event.
An interesting situation in the points table - Young Calum (it was his 13th birthday last week) is one point ahead of Dave Percival and they've had a good fight all through the series. Unfortunate, perhaps, is the fact that they both have got themselves promoted into a higher division which make it a little more difficult to get position points: can be done though. Two more youngsters have an even better chance. Ryan MacLachlan ( first year junior) looks set to win division one but seems to have done his personal, and then David Brearley is hot on his heels. David is about the same age as Calum, can win division three and can maybe do another personal to get a bonus. Good luck to all.
