Week one - 7th Jan
A wet start to the training sessions and it was pretty cold and windy too. Three groups:
Group 1 = John Galbraith, Mick Adams, David Brearley, Gary Brearley, Glenn Whitehouse, Phil Eden and Paul Hayward.
Group Two = Nathan Chester, Mike Kilgour, Calum McElwee,
Mattie Barratt, Vince Cartwright and Tony Washbrook.
Group Three = Dave Hudson, Joel Wainman, Chris Burton, Derek Palmer, Paul Noton and Karl Downes.
Marshals were Don Wilkinson (as ever), Graeme Forester, Rob Stones and Nathan Wilson.
I gave the leading group a three minute start and the second, a minute and half on the scratch group. Conditions weren't too good, except there was no traffic as Hull City were on the TV and kept all the cars at home. Some with mudguards and some without but all got pretty wet - not really raining but very dull and wet roads. Six laps of the two and a half mile circuit enough today, the second and third groups came together after three laps and all together on the last one. Handicapping not too bad for first try. Lap times:
| Lap | Gp 1 | Gp 2 | Gp 3 |
| 1 | 8.46 | 8.40 | 7.55 |
| 2 | 7.54 | 7.35 | 7.03 |
| 3 | 7.45 | 7.15 | 7.02 |
| 4 | 7.50 | = | 6.55 |
| 5 | 7.45 | = | 6.48 |
| 6 | = | = | 6.52 |
| and, although not a race, Paul Noton First Back |
Even worse day than week one, it was drizzling rain and the roads were filthy - everyone looked as if they just finished the Hell of the North. Pushed out the envelope a little and did 7 laps in spite of the conditions, gaps were 3 minutes and two minutes and they worked well again.
Group one = Dave Tucker, Mark Walker, David Hunt, Phil Eden, Paul Hayward, David Brearley and Ian Cartwright.
Group 2 = Paul Joliffe, Graeme Lawton, John Brearley, Glenn Whitehouse, Nathan Chester and Dave Hudson.
Group 3 = Chris Daddy, Matt Fenton, Derek Palmer, Nathan Wilson, Paul Noton, Karl Downs, Joel Wainman and Chris Burton. Marshals were Don Wilkinson, Sheila Sampson, John and Carol Weaden.
Group two, in spite of a further half a minute handicap were caught again after three laps - suspect they were waiting for the scratch group. It is better to work in your own group than hang on to the back of a faster group - training = working, racing = getting to the finish as best you can. The best chance for photos were the mud spattered faces after the finish.

| Lap | Gp 1 | Gp 2 | Gp 3 |

| 5 | 7.29 | = | 6.45 |
| 6 | 7.16 | = | 6.45 |
| 7 | = | = | 6.50 Chris Daddy First Back |
Better day today but afraid I missed it and Graeme Forester kindly stepped in to take the session. Eight laps today and handicaps maintained at 3 minutes and two minutes.
This seemed to work better today as everyone came together for the start of the last lap.
Group one = Alex Douse, Mick Adams, Paul Hayward, Chris Peers, Phil Eden, Mark Walker, Mike Kilgour, Dave Tucker and David Brearley.
Group Two = Dave Hudson, Nat Chester, Mattie Barratt, Calum McElwee and John Brearley.
Scratch group = Karl Downs, Paul Noton, Nat Wilson, Duncan Puttman, Chris Burton, Paul Joliffe and Joel Wainman.

Week Four - 28th January
Better Day and a different course, the Branting (flat) circuit measures only 2.2 miles but it does have a couple of nasties - the long drag up to Brantingham from the Elloughton Road (must be at least 3% but is worse when the wind blows. The kick towards the end of it often loses a few but today was fine. The pass over the A63 proves more of a problem as you get it just after turning the bend towards Ellerker - prudent use of gears gets you around this ok. First of was group two doing 8 laps (group one doing seven because of the limited time on a small circuit).
Group one is always a group of mixed abilities and Mark did a great job keeping them together and staying away almost to the end. Good to see Phil Eden getting round the corners fine - he must have been afraid of the wet roads on the Cottingham circuit.
Group 2 = Mike Kilgour, Dave Hudson, Nat Chester, Paul Kilvington, John Brearley, D Galbraith (new lad), M Roberts (new lad), Calum McElwee and Matt Barratt.
Group three (scratch group @ 2½ minutes) = Joel Wainman, Duncan Puttman, Adam Hardy, Chris Burton, Karl Downs, Steve Guymer, Nat Wilson, Matt Fenton, Paul Noton and Paul Joliffe. Group one set off 10 seconds after the scratch group. This group comprised Mark Robinson, Chris Peers, Paul Hayward, Mick Adams, Mark Walker, Phil Eden and Richard Guymer joined them later.
I notice that the scratch group are now doing a nice slow first lap - the chat lap as it was originally conceived.

Marshals were Don Wilkinson, Graeme Forester, Dennis Hunter, Mally Wiles and Rob Stones. Thanks to everyone the riders had a good session.
