Wetwang Spring Road Race - April 9 2006
Hull Thursday 1st and 2nd Claim Members Do Us Proud
A full field lined up in what can only be described as atrocious conditions.
The temperature never went above 4 degrees C for the whole of the race and with a strong NE wind, with sleet and rain it was interesting!
Six Hull Thursday Riders lined up. Duncan Putman, Steve Macklin, Andy Barnes, Karl Downes (on the come back trail) Chris Burton and Michael Chorlton (1st ever RR).
It was a full field of 60 starters. Some of those brave enough tried to form breaks but it was not a day for any to be sustained and they were soon pulled back. Life Hill and the conditions took their toll, and of the starters, only 33 finished of which 25 were in the bunch.
Hull Thursday were done proud. 5 finished and unfortunately Duncan had to drop out on the second to last lap due to a mechanical. Chris finished 9th, Steve ,Karl and Michael were also in the bunch with Andy 6 minutes away having got dropped on the penultimate lap.
Anyone who rode this race wants a pat on the back, but a special well done to Michael Chorlton for his performance in his first road race.
Second Claim member Nathan Wilson was the winner and fellow second claim member Paul Joliffe was 4th, well done to them. A big thank you to Hull and East Riding for a brilliantly run race.
