Star Bike Time Trial series update
The penultimate event of the series was held last Saturday at Warter. The event was for standard road bikes and was won in convincing style by Steve Macklin. On a sunny but blustery day Steve was 21 seconds in front of second place ride Dean Fulstow with John Askew a further 21 seconds behind. Mark Walker put in a solid ride for 4th place – easily his best ride of the year. Neil was the only other rider within shouting distance of the leaders before a big gap to Nathan, Mark and myself while Carl and Mike both put in good rides to round of the top 10. Jayne was the only lady present. Overall numbers were down somewhat on recent events with only 14 riders starting – somewhat disappointing really.
The wind was blowing from the south and unsurprisingly seemed to be head or side wind all the way round the circuit with no help been given. With the climb of Warter Priory to be tackled half way round there was no hiding place and the fittest riders opened up some big gaps over the less fit or heavy riders.
The anticipated show down between Paul Purdy and Steve failed to materialise when Paul missed the start believing the event to start at 2.00pm, but his overall position at the head of the point’s table looks safe and he will in all probability be confirmed as overall winner next weekend
The final event of this years Championship takes place at Skidby this Saturday (13/9/2009) @ 1.00pm and will be followed by a prize presentation & buffet in the Half Moon pub – everyone is welcome to come along and join the proceedings
