Bob Hudson Memorial trophy Saturday 29 August 2009
The penultimate event of the series ended with another very close result with Steven Guymer (26.38) taking the win by the smallest of margins over Steve Macklin (26.39) -just 1 second! separated them and I bet Steve is kicking himself wondering where that second was lost. Third place was taken by Dean Fulstow (27.04), who always seems to go well on this course, with John Askew (27.27) leading home a chasing pack of riders who were all relatively close together and included Paul Purdy, Nathan Chester and Mark Walker
The weather was bright and sunny like a summers day only blowing an absolute gale from the west. This made the first leg (mainly uphill) and second leg (totally uphill) leg very hard and slow but the third leg an absolute screamer being both backwind and downhill.
The event was for standard road bikes and with speeds of up to 45mph being record coming into the finish as piloting a low-pro at that kind of speed could be hairy to say the least
Dave Compston from Bridlington CC rode a private entry and recorded the fastest time of the day in 26.22 but on such a windy day was over 2 minutes of Chris Whitelam's course record of 24.10
