Jim's Training

Training Ride Six
Saturday, 7th February 2009
Brantingham Circuit
Another cold day, the aftermath of some serious frostly, sleety, snowy weather; in fact Brantingham Dale alongside the course was still closed off to traffic and the top of Cave hill was clear only thanks to a snow plough. Nevertheless we had thirty participants, all eager to get on with the training sessions.
Rightfully some are timing their arrival just right and we expected less than we got and had only three groups, we could have done with four by splitting group two. Paul's suggestion that faster groups go off first is proving successful and you should be really pleased with the work you're doing and staying well grouped together, yet pushing hard. Conditions have not been easy.
Group one had Karl Downes, Steve Guymer, John Askew, Pete Fielding-Smith, Richard Moore, Matthew Fenton, Jack Cutsforth, Chris Daddy and David Brearley
Group two was Steve Macklin, Paul Kilvington, Paul Noton, Chris Goodway, Dave Hudson, Mark Ollerenshaw, Andy Tummons, Lee Watson, Mark Walker, Rob Busby and Neil Cleminshaw.
Group three was Mark Robinson, Paul Campbell, John Galbraith, Rob Stones, Holly Marett, Sarah Carpenter, Sarah Tock and Phil Eden.
Andy Faichney also took son Joe around together, hopin, I think, for some other youngsters. Hopefully the weather will get better to bring some more out.
We did intend to do ten laps again but I did mix the lapboards up slightly but someone in group one asked if it should be the bell when we showed two to go. I got confused (it happens easily to me) and gave them the bell and we ended up with only nine laps for the first two groups. You were right Richard!

I'm impressed with the consistency of the lap times, the odd one may be out but that's accountable by the traffic conditions on the corners - it is, after all, only training and you must take note of the marshals and be safe. Thanks to Don, Terry, Gil and Sheila for marshalling, and to Richard. Next week is at Sproatley, east of the city on the Aldbrough road. See you then.
